Permit Design of Mower House April 22, 2022
April 22, 2022
Dear Neighbors:
In accordance with Old Georgetown Board requirements, and as part of our ongoing efforts to keep our neighbors informed of activities at Tudor Place, we are notifying you that the following project has been submitted for permit review:
Mower House Additions/Renovations
Consistent with plans that received concept approval from the Old Georgetown Board in 2019, we have submitted permit drawings for the renovation/expansion of the Mower House.
In order to ensure uninterrupted emergency electrical power on site, a new natural gas generator will be installed at the Mower House, enclosed within a complementary addition to the existing building. The addition will be stucco on a base of pebble dash with a new chimney to enclose the generator’s exhaust flue. The generator will be housed below the existing Mower House floor level with louvers as required for ventilation, providing additional storage space above.
These designs are going before the Old Georgetown Board for permit approval on May 5, 2022. The designs and other materials submitted for review can be found on the Neighbors Page of our website at www.tudorplace.org/who-we-are/for-neighbors.
As always, we welcome your questions, concerns, and ideas. If you would like a tour of the site to learn more about these and other activities at Tudor Place, please let me know. Please also visit the Old Georgetown Board website to learn more about the review process and the opportunities you have to share your views about these projects: www.cfa.gov/project-review/old-georgetown.

Revised Design of Garage Addition February 4, 2021
February 4, 2021
Dear Neighbors,
Since receiving concept approval from the Old Georgetown Board and the U.S. Commission on Fine Arts for the renovation and expansion of the Garage at Tudor Place in September 2019, we have continued to work with our design team at Hartman-Cox. The revised design further reduces the length of the addition and includes a trellis at the southwest corner of the terrace to minimize the visibility of homes on 32nd Street from the terrace.
Before submitting the design for review by the Old Georgetown Board, we would like to hear from you. To allow us to discuss the new design together, we will hold a virtual meeting on Wednesday, February 24 at 6:00 p.m. Login information for the meeting can be found below.
The design packet will be posted at our website: tudorplace.org/about/for-neighbors for your review in advance of the meeting.
We look forward to seeing you then.

Response to Comments Regarding Tudor Place Garage Addition June 13, 2019
June 13, 2019
Dear Neighbors,
Last month the Old Georgetown Board reviewed our concept design for additions to the Garage and Mower House at Tudor Place. During the hearing, Commissioners discussed the location of the Garage elevator and had questions about the requirements for the archival and collections management facility. We have submitted a response to these questions and concerns for consideration at their July 3 meeting.
Our thanks are extended to those of you who provided comments to the Old Georgetown Board, either in person or in writing. We recognize that activities at our site have an impact upon your lives and appreciate your input. Our submission also includes a response to comments regarding our management of the west side of the property.
The materials submitted to the Old Georgetown Board have been posted on the Tudor Place website. For information about the review process, please visit www.cfa.gov/project-review/old-georgetown.

Garage and Mower House Additions/Renovations April 12, 2019
April 12, 2019
Dear Neighbors,
In accordance with Old Georgetown Board requirements, and as part of our ongoing efforts to keep our neighbors informed of activities at Tudor Place, we would like to notify you of a submission we have made to the OGB for review of the following project:
Garage and Mower House Additions/Renovations
Consistent with the Master Preservation Plan that received concept approval from the Old Georgetown Board in 2012, we are proceeding with designs for the renovation and expansion of the Garage and the expansion of the Mower House.
Renovation within the Garage will include: partition relocation to accommodate offices on the second floor; mechanical, electrical, and fire protection modifications; accessibility upgrades; installation of a stretcher-compliant elevator; development of an improved classroom space; and the creation of an exhibition gallery. The addition portion includes an archive and collection storage facility with high-density movable storage and advanced environmental controls, workspace for grounds staff, and a prefabricated production greenhouse.
Site work around the Garage includes the installation of geothermal wells at the building perimeter; regrading and repaving of the pebble dash drive to meet accessibility requirements at building entry doors; installation of a new access hatch at the utility tunnel entrance; and rework of utilities as required, including stormwater routing to new underground cisterns under the South Lawn.
At the Mower House, a new emergency generator will be enclosed within a complementary addition to the existing building. The addition will be stucco on a base of pebble dash with a new chimney to enclose the generator’s exhaust flue.
These designs are going before the Old Georgetown Board for concept approval on May 2, 2019. The designs and other materials submitted for review can be found on the Neighbors Page of our website.
As always, we welcome your questions, concerns, and ideas. If you would like a tour of the site to learn more about these and other activities at Tudor Place, please let me know.
