TUDOR PLACE | is open Tuesday – Sunday.
Explore the Historic Garden
The estate was designed and continually improved upon by six generations of the Peter family between 1805 and 1983. Garden maps available at the Visitor Center upon arrival. The primary layout of the 5 ½ acre landscape is divided into two parts: the North Garden and the South Lawn.
The second part, the pastoral, southern side of the property, lies the sweeping South Lawn.
The North Garden
The European-style gardens on the north side of the property are laid out in a series of garden rooms. The rooms connect these anchoring elements, supported by a framework of boxwood, a central axis, water features and strategic views.
The South Lawn
To the south side of the property, lies the sweeping South Lawn. There, to the west of the historic house, is the Kitchen Arbor & Gazebo. Designed and built between 1964-1966, it is constructed of wood with a with brick flooring. Armistead Peter 3rd and Caroline often enjoyed afternoon cocktails here. In the spring it’s covered with white and yellow windflowers (aka anemones; and translated in Greek is wind). We invite you to come, sit and enjoy the surroundings.
