Militaria
The Tudor Place collection includes numerous examples of objects associated with the Peter family’s American military service from the War of 1812 to World War II.
One especially significant object is a camp stool used by General George Washington in his officer’s tent during the American Revolution, one of two that remain extant from a set of twelve commissioned by the Commander in Chief in 1775. Uniforms, medals and accessories from the Mexican War, the American Civil War and both World Wars speak to the tradition of military service in the Peter family.
The archive includes military commissions for both the United States Army and the United States Navy for numerous family members and papers related to the various campaigns in which they served.
The estate’s last owner, Armistead Peter 3rd, was a veteran of both World War I and World War II and his uniforms from these conflicts are found in the collection.
