Glass
The more than 200 pieces of glass in the collection include drinking glasses, punch cups, wine rinsers, wine decanters, serving dishes, candy dishes, salt cellars and other formal dining equipment from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Its more utilitarian contents include onion-shape wine bottles, case bottles, and personal accessories from the 20th century, such as eye glasses, cosmetic containers, and medicinal containers. The collection showcases a variety of manufacturing techniques, from free-blown bottles to blown-molded pitchers.
Among the collection’s highlights are wine glasses formerly used by President and Mrs. Washington; a souvenir cup from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exhibition in Chicago, Illinois; a stunning 1910 Jack-in-the-Pulpit vase by the Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company; and a mid-20th century vase by the Venetian Salviati Company, reproduced from historic pattern books.
