With the second-largest collection of artifacts related to George and Martha Washington in existence and as the ancestral home of Martha Washington’s descendants, Tudor Place has an incomparable connection to American history.
Visitors can see firsthand the cherished and everyday items of the First Family and six generations, spanning across over two centuries of significant moments in America’s existence.
In 2026, Tudor Place in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with America250 at Tudor Place. Throughout 2026, we are using this historic milestone to reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans and look toward a future where every story finds its place.

Did you know that Tudor Place has one of the only surviving letters between George and Martha Washington?
Martha Washington burned almost all of her correspondence with her husband after his death in 1799. This letter from George, telling his wife about his 1775 appointment to lead the Continental Army, was found behind a drawer in Martha’s writing desk. This American treasure sheds touching insight into their partnership and deep affection, and is on display only at Tudor Place.

Discover the story behind an estate sale of historic proportions. The centerpiece of the America250 at Tudor Place celebration, this special exhibition experience displays several artifacts related to America’s first first family together for the first time. Explore what George and Martha Washington’s worldly belongings, and the people who desired them, reveal about the values and divisions of early American society. Open through December 2026.

- George Washington’s Revolutionary War camp stool (one of only two surviving)
