Photography & Filming

With lush green spaces, beautiful blooms and an elegant historic house presiding over it all, Tudor Place has a backdrop for every occasion. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or are in need of a particular ambience, Tudor Place will help you get the perfect shot. All photography and filming at Tudor Place requires a permit. No photography shoots, professional or hobbyist, may be conducted on site without prior arrangement. Email education@tudorplace.org to book your date and obtain a permit.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you answer “yes” to any of the following questions, you are required to obtain a photography permit.

  • Is the primary purpose of your visit to capture photos of you, your family or a group?
  • Will a photographer, professional or hobbyist, paid or not, be accompanying you to take the photos?
  • Are you wearing wedding attire, formal attire, costumes or coordinating casual wear?
  • Are you promoting a brand or taking photos for a sponsored post?
  • Could I do this in my backyard, but made a special trip to do this at Tudor Place?
  • Will you be profiting from these photos?

When is a photography permit required?

A photo permit is required at Tudor Place when any of these are true:

  • The primary purpose of your visit is to capture photos of you, your family or a group.
  • When a photographer (professional or hobbyist) paid or not, is accompanying you to take the photos.
  • You are wearing wedding attire, formal attire, costumes or coordinating casual wear.
  • You are promoting a brand or taking photos for a sponsored post.
  • You could have done this in your own backyard, but made a special trip to do this at Tudor Place.
  • This is a commercial transaction; meaning you will receive money in exchange for your photos.

What does a photography permit cover?

The photography permit provides non-exclusive access to the 5 1/2 acre garden at an hourly rate based on availability.

The interior of the historic house museum is not available for portrait or formal photography. Photography permits are not the same as private rentals and do not guarantee private access to any spaces on the property.

How far in advance should I book a photography permit?

Photography permits must be booked at least two weeks in advance of the requested permit date in order to secure non-exclusive access to the 5 1/2 acre estate.

What if it rains and I need to reschedule?

We understand that scheduling an outdoor photography session can rely on several factors, including weather and will assist securing a rain date at the time of booking.  Rescheduling for any reason other than inclement weather incurs a small fee.

Do I need a photography permit if I come to Tudor Place during public hours?

Yes.  Public hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday Noon – 4:00 p.m.

Can I book a photography permit outside of public hours?

Yes.  A photography permit can be arranged outside of regular public hours based on availability, Tuesday through Sunday.

Do you allow day-of-walk ins?

No. Walk-in permits cannot be accommodated due to previous event books, public musuem hours and other scheduled permits.  All photography permits must be pre-arranged prior to your visit.

Will there be other photography permits issued at the same time as mine?

No.  We do not issue multiple permits for the same time.
