Georgetown can be a noisy place. Traffic, sirens, barking dogs; they add to the cacophony which defines a city soundscape. One hundred and fifty years ago, at the height of the Civil War, Georgetown sounded quite different. What did it sound like for a Washingtonian who walked the streets in 1864? Professor Greg Smith was part of the sound team that created the soundtrack for Steven Spielberg’s film “Lincoln” and will explain the challenges of capturing and re-creating the sounds of the capital city during the Civil War.

Greg Smith has been working in the film industry for over 40 years.  He has been a guest lecturer at Ford’s Theater in Washington on the topic of the Lincoln assassination and death. Professor Greg Smith taught at American University in Washington DC and is a Professor Emeritus from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
